Hello my lovelies! In our culture, the phrase “help meet” is often misunderstood and frowned upon, even by Christians. Being a help meet isn’t something you can study in university or apply for as a career. But God intentionally designed the role of a help meet to be an integral part of the nuclear family. Being a help meet is a high and noble calling. Why is this role so important?
Read on to learn about the role of a godly help meet.

What Is a “Help Meet”?
To discover the origins of this term, let’s go back to the beginning of Creation. One by one, God created the earth, plants, and animals. After creating each one, He pronounced that it was good.
But, after God created Adam, He decided that something was not ideal. This was the very first thing in Creation that was “not good” in God’s eyes.
“And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”
Genesis 2:18
Many of us certainly agree that it is not good for all those handsome, eligible young men to be alone!
What was God’s solution for the lonely man? He created a “help meet” for him. The word “meet” describes something or someone that is precisely adapted to a particular need or circumstance.
So God provided a helper who was perfectly adapted to Adam’s needs – a wife named Eve!
As a help meet, Eve was designed to come alongside Adam, support him in ruling the earth, and strengthen him.
Why Is a Help Meet Important?
The Hebrew word used for “help” in Genesis 2:18 is “ezer.” Although it is first used for a wife, the word “ezer” occurs twenty more times in the Old Testament. In sixteen of those instances, the word refers to God Himself. The word “ezer” describes God as the helper of the fatherless, the needy, and the victim in the book of Psalms.
In the role of a help meet, a woman uniquely bears the image of God by being a helper to her husband. She is there to encourage him, support him in areas where he is weak, and make his job easier. The role of a help meet carries great purpose, significance, and responsibility.
As a help meet, a woman holds great power to further God’s master plan for her family and her legacy. Let’s explore some of the specific ways that a help meet can use her power for good.

The Power of a Godly Help Meet
1. She Strengthens and Supports
“The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.”
First, a godly help meet encourages her husband in every situation. When he feels down or discouraged, she is there to encourage him. A godly help meet reminds her husband of God’s faithfulness and promises. If he is under extra stress, she looks for ways to lighten his burden.
During challenges and conflict, she is the one standing by his side. He can trust her to support him and never speak badly of him before others.
2. She Knows the Power of Her Words
“She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.”
The wise help meet always speaks words of wisdom and kindness. She avoids gossip, slander, complaining, and deceit. The godly help meet knows the power of her words, and she uses them to build her husband up and praise his achievements. Also, she thanks her husband for all that he does for her. If she has children, she speaks words of life over them and encourages them in their growth. When she offers constructive criticism, she always does so with grace and kindness.
3. She Builds A Peaceful Home
“Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.”
The good help meet recognizes that she is the keeper of the home. In every action, word, and thought, she can build or destroy her home. Since she wants to build her home, she seeks God each day for the wisdom and strength she needs.
She works hard to create a peaceful, clean, beautiful home and serve her family. More importantly, she maintains a joyful attitude even in stressful times. She knows that she sets the tone for her home, and she wants it to be a happy home. Her quiet strength brings peace to the home.
When her husband comes home from a hard day at work, he can relax in the peaceful home she has created. He knows that she will welcome him with a smile and a warm hug. Home is his refuge and his castle where he can relax, let down his guard, and enjoy time with his family.
4. She Covers Her Home in Prayer
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
The godly help meet loves her husband and family and wants what is best for them. Instead of worrying and becoming anxious when challenges arise, she spends time in prayer for them each and every day. She comes boldly to God’s throne to intercede for the needs of her family.
She invites God into every area of her life and home. Nothing is too big or too small for her to pray about! She sees God answer prayer on a regular basis, and her faith grows deeper and stronger.
5. She Raises the Next Generation
“He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord.”
If God blesses her with children, one of her most powerful tasks as a help meet is to raise the next generation. She shapes the hearts and minds of her children to love God. Day by day, she teaches them His truth. Although her work takes years to come to fruition, her children will call her blessed someday.

Next, develop practical skills such as taking care of children, cleaning, and cooking. Intentionally build a variety of skills and interests that will bless your future marriage. Whether you develop skills in gardening or interior design or music, choose skills that will be useful one day.
Instead of spending hours on social media, study topics that will benefit you in future. Learn what the Bible teaches about marriage roles, child training, and more. Study neuroplasticity, health, and nutrition. You will never regret developing a strong knowledge base to help your future family.
