Curly Hair Accessories
If you’re following the Curly Girl Method, you know that curly hair is fragile. You have to treat it with respect and gentleness! That means you’ll be saying goodbye to rough cotton pillowcases and terrycloth towels and tossing the heat tools. The one exception is that you CAN use a blowdryer on a cool/low setting with a diffuser attachment. This will define your curls and help them dry faster. Read on to learn about the best diffuser attachments, silk and satin pillowcases, and curly hair accessories for beginners! (Here is how to diffuse your curls.)
Dryers with Diffusers

Diffuser Attachments
The Curly Co. Collapsible Hair Diffuser
Trader Plus Collapsible Hair Diffuser (for blowdryers with 1.5 to 2 inch diameter)
xtava Black Orchid Hair Diffuser (will fit blowdryers with a 1.8 inch diameter)
Silk & Satin Pillowcases
If you know how to sew, you can sew your own pillowcase from silk or satin material. If not, these pillowcases have very good reviews on Amazon!
Satin Pillowcase Queen Size (2 Pack)
100% Mulberry Silk Pillowcase, Soft Blush
Curl Towels for Plopping
2 Pack Microfibre Hair Towel Wrap/Turban
Curly Hair Bonnets
Some curly girls like to sleep with their curls in a satin-lined bonnet to protect them. This protects curls from frizz and breakage and helps preserve definition.
Heat Caps for Deep Conditioning Curly Hair
Hot Head Deep Conditioning Heat Caps
These microwaveable heat caps (available on Etsy) were created by a hairstylist named Sandra Snell. She was frustrated with the lack of deep conditioning options for home treatments, and she loved to sew. Sandra designed these heat caps with a flax seed filling. It will hold heat for 20-45 minutes after just a few minutes in the microwave. Customers rave about these heat caps!
Curly Hair Clips for Volume & Hair Ties
When clipping or tying your curls, be gentle and avoid pulling your hair tightly back. A lot of curly girls use duckbill clips to clip their wet hair so it dries with more volume. I use claw clips to do the same thing [quite un-glamorous video here]. I have also used satin scrunchies for ponytails and pineapples, and they are so gentle on your hair!
Goody Colour Collection Mini Claw Clips, Black
Curly Hair Brushes and Combs
Denman Free Flow Wide Spaced Brush
