2022 Hair Trend: Middle Part

This hair trend is a little bit outside my comfort zone. For years, I’ve been doing a side part with lots of volume on top. But, that look is a bit passé and overdone. This year’s hair is about understated elegance and looking like you didn’t try too hard.

The middle part trend has been everywhere this year! So, I took the plunge and got a haircut with a middle part.

To have a straight middle part, I use a wide-tooth comb to gently divide my hair down the middle right after washing it and applying my products. Then I add a little extra gel on the top layer and front sections and scrunch.

Don’t brush or comb the whole top section. Just gently part it, and scrunch upwards toward the roots. It will be a little bit imperfect, and that’s okay.

When you wear a middle part, you won’t get quite as much volume as a side part. But that’s okay. It’s a softer look which is very feminine.

If I sleep on wet hair, I just clip up the top layers at the crown in a medium jaw clip to preserve the volume and shape. If they get a little messy by morning, I just add a little watered-down gel, twist, and scrunch.

2022 Hair Trend: Face-Framing Layers

Next, I asked for some face-framing layers. They aren’t quite short enough to be curtain bangs, but they add some texture and interest to my hairstyle. They are right below chin length.

After washing my hair, I gently separate these front layers and coat them with gel. Then I twist them around my finger and scrunch.

If you’re feeling brave, you could also try curly curtain bangs! They are a lot of fun!

These face-framing layers are perfect for updos. I can sweep my hair back with a butterfly clip or claw clip, and leave the layers out. They also look adorable with ponytails and buns.
