This season, bandana hairstyles are back in style…and cuter than ever! Bandanas are perfect for curly hair because they are gentle + won’t tear out your hair. Plus, they can keep hair out of your face on hot summer days. If you’re looking for quick + on-point hairstyles for curly hair, this post is for you.
Here are my top 5 summer bandana hairstyles for curly hair.
Bandana as Headband
If you just had a fantastic wash day and your curls are looking great, this style will showcase your natural texture and add a pop of colour!
First, prepare your bandana. Fold it diagonally, and then fold it into an inch-wide strip. Using your fingers, gently separate the front sections of your hair in front of your ears. Clip the rest of your hair at the back. Place the bandana about an inch away from your hairline, and tie it twice at the nape of your neck. Release the clip and shake your curls free.
For a little more volume, wiggle your curls at the roots with either your fingers or a root pick.
Half Up Pony Hairstyle for Curly Hair
For this hairstyle for curly hair, gently separate the top section of your hair and secure it with a hair tie/elastic at the crown. Leave out a few curls at the front to frame your face.
Next, I added a small vintage scarf to tie around the ponytail. (I tried using a regular bandana, but it was too big and looked cheesy!) I would recommend using a smaller bandana or even a silk scarf for this style. That way, it doesn’t overpower your natural curls!
Low Side Ponytail with Bandana
This one is super simple! You’ll just need a rolled-up bandana for it. Just gather your hair toward the nape of your neck (either the left side or right side), and tie a basic knot with the bandana. You can leave the ends long, as I did, or tie it again underneath.
This hairstyle for curly hair has an adorable Western flair. And it would pair perfectly with a gingham shirt, denim skirt, and cowgirl boots! #WesternWear
Vintage Bandana Hairstyle for Curly Hair
For this one, you’ll need to roll your bandana a bit wider. Fold it diagonally, and then fold it into thirds. This will give you a wider bandana to work with!
Next, flip your head upside down, and put your hair into a high ponytail at the crown. Place the widest part of the bandana at the nape of your neck, and pull the ends toward the front of your hairline. Gently tie the ends about an inch back from your hairline.
Pineapple with Bandana Hairstyle for Curly Hair
Just like the last hairstyle for curly hair, this style calls for a bandana folded about 3 inches wide. First, put your hair into a pineapple. Leave the ends loose in the front, and pull out a few curls near the front.
Place the widest part of the bandana at the nape of your neck, and pull the ends toward the front of your hairline. Gently tie the ends about an inch back from your hairline.
Next, tuck the loose curly ends from your pineapple into the sides of the headband. If you think your hair might come out, you can add some bobby pins to the headband to keep it in place. Pin any loose pieces, and you’re done!
This classic vintage hairstyle will make you look like Rosie the Riveter! It looks especially cute if you have tons of volume and thick curly hair.
