Hello curly girls! Today, I’m sharing a review of a gel I’ve been using for over 9 months…the Giovanni LA Styling Gel. It has provided consistently good results, strong hold, and lovely definition. Although the Giovanni LA Natural Gel is a bit more pricy than some other gels I’ve reviewed, it is a high quality gel, and a little goes a long way.

This gel is packed with organic botanical extracts from lavender, rosemary, thyme, and more! Its holding power comes from aloe vera leaf juice, nettle extract, and hydroxyethylcellulose. It also contains vitamin E and sunflower seed oil for extra hydration for your curls.

Does Giovanni LA gel have protein?

No, this gel is protein-free and glycerin-free. If your hair is sensitive to protein, this gel is a great choice for you! It will also work well during the humid summer months when a glycerin-containing gel can dry out your hair.

What kind of hold does this gel give?

This gel provides a medium to strong hold, depending on what you combine it and how much you use. I like to layer it over the Sheamoisture Smoothie or the Curls Blueberry Bliss Leave-In Conditioner. A little of this gel goes a long way!

How do you use Giovanni LA styling gel?

To apply this gel, I squeeze out the water from my conditioned hair. After applying a styling product (see above for recommendations), I squirt a cherry-sized amount into my palm and spread it over both hands. With my head upside down, I use the praying hands technique to smooth the gel down my curls. Then I scrunch upward. I also flip my head to one side, scrunch, and repeat on the other side. I like to gently separate a few face-framing curls and add a dab more gel to those if needed as well.

My Personal Results with This Gel

This gel has given me strong hold and bouncy curls that last for 2-3 days (or even longer!) It gives a natural shine, too. When I use this gel, my curls have lots of volume and texture. The LA Natural Styling Gel enhances their natural shape and helps them stay pretty for days.
