Hello curly girls! If you live in a rural area like me, finding curly hair products locally can be tough. And finding the best products for curly hair in Canada can be difficult, as some brands are harder to locate here. Today, I’ve rounded up a list of the best drugstore products for curly hair. You can probably find these in your grocery stores or drugstores, and all of these are also available on Amazon.
Read on for the best drugstore products for curly hair.
SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo
I’ve been using this shampoo for quite a few months now, and I have no complaints! It does a great job cleansing low porosity hair and removing buildup while not stripping away all the natural oils. It left my hair soft, touchable, and full of bouncy curls.
The ingredient list is fantastic, too! It contains hydrating ingredients like coconut oil and neem oil. And it also includes silk protein and hibiscus extracts! The fragrance is sweet and coconutty (yes, that’s a word!)
Even better, SheaMoisture is a company with incredible values. They source their organic ingredients through fair trade and test products on humans, never animals. They even provide scholarships for minority students and business owners. Now that’s a company worth supporting!
I recommend pairing this shampoo with its companion product, SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Conditioner.

Tresemme Botanique Nourish & Replenish Conditioner
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that this is my favourite conditioner. It’s creamy, moisturizing, and has fantastic slip. (Slip is a CG term, meaning it makes your hair more slippery and easy to detangle). It contains coconut milk and aloe vera for extra moisture. This drugstore product for curly hair is affordable, easy to find at grocery stores, and so hydrating. It’s also CG-approved and contains no silicone. This is one of my favourite drugstore products for curly hair. Try it; I think you’ll love it!

Cantu Curl Activator Cream
If you have thick, thirsty curls, this styling product will probably be perfect for you. It’s formulated with natural moisturizers including coconut oil, shea butter, almond oil, jojoba oil, and many other botanicals. This product will enhance your natural curls and reduce frizz. You can layer it under a gel or styling product for best results. I think this product generally works better for type 3 and 4 curls, because it can weigh down type 2 curls with all its moisture. But it depends on the curly girl!

SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie
Another curl enhancing product that you can get at a drugstore is the SheaMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. This product will enhance your natural curl pattern and help fight frizz. It’s formulated with coconut oil, silk proteins, and neem oil. You can layer a small amount under your styling products. Also, I’ve found that this product is good for refreshing your curls or for touching up any unruly curls on day 2 or 3 hair. You can also use it as a styling product for twist-outs, braids, or wash-and-gos.

Pantene Curly Mousse
For some curly girls, mousse works better than gel. This curly mousse by Pantene is a fantastic choice! My sister has been using it for years for her type 2b/2c waves and loves it. It creates softly defined waves and curls that are bouncy and full.

Aussie Instant Freeze Gel
This gel is one of the best Curly Girl approved drugstore products I’ve tried! I can’t find it in grocery stores in rural Nova Scotia, but you may be able to find it in your area. I think it is more readily available in American drugstores. And I can always find it on Amazon. 😉
The Aussie Instant Freeze gel provides strong hold for days of amazing curls! It’s also very affordable. You can read my full review and see my results with this gel here.

L.A. Looks Sport Look Gel
A favourite among curly girls and curly Youtubers, this gel provides strong hold even in high humidity. One curly girl reviewed it on Influenster, “Literally my holy grail of curly hair. First a leave in conditioner, then slather this stuff on and let it dry, and then scrunch out the crunch with a hair oil (I use Argan oil) and voila! Beautiful curls for days.”
