When I’m running late, I love having a few curly hairstyles in my back pocket. A cute hairstyle can help you look put-together + confident even if you’re having a bad hair day. These hairstyles are simple, easy to do, and totally on point. Even though these curly hairstyles are designed for curly girls, they will also look beautiful on straight locks!
Here are 3 easy curly hairstyles for long hair.
Curly Hairstyle #1: Half Top Knot
In you’re in a hurry, this curly hairstyle is super quick and beginner-friendly. It’s also perfect for bad hair days because it can hide any unruly locks.
For this adorable style, you’ll need:
- Bobby pins
- Hairspray (optional)
Step 1-
Using your thumbs, section off the top of your hair. Gently pull it back toward the crown of your head.
Step 2-
Smooth back any stray pieces, but don’t flatten down the front section of your hair. You want a little volume there!
Step 3-
Holding the gathered hair against the head with one hand, use the other hand to loosely twist your curls into a bun.
Pro Tip: Twist at the beginning to get the bun started. Then, stop twisting, and WRAP the hair around the bun for more volume.
-Practice makes perfect!
Step 4-
Tuck the ends underneath, and anchor the bun with several bobby pins around the outside.
Step 5-
If it looks too small and tight, gently pull at the sides to make the bun bigger. This style looks good with lots of volume and texture!
Optional: Add a light mist of hairspray to hold the style.
Curly Hairstyle #2: Bubble Ponytail
I love this hairstyle for curly hair because it’s simple, fun, and full of personality. For this style, you’ll need:
- A small jaw clip
- 4-5 elastics/hair ties
Step 1-
With your thumbs, section off the top of your hair. Lift it to create a “pouf,” and clip the jaw clip at the very back, at your crown.
Step 2-
Pull your hair into a high ponytail just touching the jaw clip.
Step 3-
Add another elastic 1.5 inches down the ponytail, without pulling the hair in between tight.
Step 4-
Repeat Step 3 until you are at the end of the ponytail. Leave another 1.5-inch section at the end. Remove the jaw clip (it was just to create volume at the top of the head).
Step 5-
For more volume, pull apart the sections into “bubbles.” Texture + volume are the goal here- not perfection!
And you’re done!
Curly Hairstyle #3: Throwback Ponytail
Inspired by 80s hairstyles, this retro ponytail has made a comeback over the past few years. The good news: it’s super easy to do! If you like your hair pulled back from your face, you’ll love this hairstyle. You’ll need…
- A hair tie
- Bobby pins (optional)
Step 1-
Using your thumbs, section off the top part of your hair.
Step 2-
Gather it at the centre of the back half of your head (not at the crown, but a few inches more toward the front.)
Step 3-
Holding the hair pointing straight up, secure the ponytail with an elastic/hair tie.
Step 4-
Pull the ponytail apart for more volume.
Step 5-
If necessary, use bobby pins to secure any loose strands.
Style Tip: Tie a vintage scarf around the pony for bonus points!
